The inaugural Louth Junior County Close Championship proved to be an absolute triumph for the region, uniting junior golfers from Ardee, Dundalk, County Louth, Greenore, and Seapoint Golf Clubs for a rigorous multi-round showcase across some of the finest links in the country.

For Ardee supporters, the real highlight was watching homegrown talent Emily McShane conquer the fairways. Emily set her stall out early with a fantastic 24 points at Dundalk Golf Club—her very first time playing the Blackrock course. She followed it up with solid rounds of 17 at Seapoint and 16 at Baltray, finishing on 57 Stableford points to take the inaugural U16 crown seven points clear of her closest rival.

What made Emily’s run even more remarkable was her inclusion in the U20 division as well, where her stellar opening round pitched her right into the lead flight alongside eventual U20 champion Elizabeth Sue Sharkey and runner-up Isla Smith. Her composure under pressure highlights the phenomenal upward trajectory of the girls’ game in mid-Louth.

More Local Success on the Fairways

Ardee Golf Club members had even more reasons to cheer when the net standings were tallied. Local golfer Adrian Boyd and fellow clubmate Aaron Reilly both put together brilliant tournaments to finish tied in joint second place for the U15 Boys Nett Stableford on 113 points, showcasing the depth of talent emerging from our local club.

A Triumph for County-Wide Collaboration

Beyond the individual silverware, the tournament was a resounding success for how seamlessly five local clubs pulled together. Travelling across Dundalk, Seapoint, and County Louth Golf Club in Baltray gave youngsters a true taste of championship pressure while forging lasting friendships.

Organisers also paid tribute to the army of volunteers—starters, spotters, scorers, and referees—whose tireless work ensured the multi-day event ran without a hitch, supported generously by local sponsors including Annord Mardix, Greenore Port, PING, Farrell Furniture, Links Landscaping, and Hanna McDonnell Marketing.

With four inaugural champions now etched into local sporting history, the pilot event has laid a brilliant foundation for what everyone hopes will become a beloved annual fixture on the Louth sporting calendar.
