St Mochtas produced a remarkable second-half comeback at the Louth GAA Training Centre in Darver to secure their place in the quarter-finals of the Anchor Tours Senior Football Championship, overturning the six-point winning margin they required and ultimately finishing ten points clear.

Following a heavy defeat to Ardee St Marys in Round 1 and Hunterstown’s shock victory over Ardee, St Mochtas faced a daunting must-win encounter. Hunterstown started brightly through James Russell and Ciaran Russell, but a crucial turning point arrived when Shane Lennon set up Danny Kindlon for a brilliant goal, giving St Mochtas a 1-1 to 0-2 lead. Ryan Burns kept Hunterstown in touch with accurate shooting, leaving St Mochtas ahead by 1-4 to 0-5 at the interval.

Kevin McClorey’s side came out after the restart with immense purpose. As Shane Lennon continued to pull the strings, Declan Byrne struck an exceptional two-pointer with the outside of the boot to push St Mochtas six points clear at 1-10 to 0-7. With the required margin secured, St Mochtas seized the momentum, adding further points through Byrne, Lennon, and Ciaran Byrne to seal a dominant 1-15 to 0-7 triumph.

Naomh Mairtin 1-10 St Fechins 0-13 (Group 1)

Over at DEFY Páirc Mhuire in Ardee, reigning Louth Senior Football champions Naomh Mairtin were eliminated from the championship following a dramatic 1-10 to 0-13 draw with St Fechins.

Missing key county stars including Sam Mulroy, Eoghan Callaghan, Tom Gray, Conor Morgan, and Jack Murphy, the Monasterboice side struggled to match their 2025 title-winning form. St Fechins capitalized on the breeze, building a commanding 1-2 to 0-11 halftime lead aided by a powerful goal from Val Leddy and excellent scoring from Michael McGlew and James McGlew.

Trailing heavily, Naomh Mairtin fought back valiantly in the second half. Inspired by Dara McDonnell and veteran Wayne Campbell—who landed crucial two-pointers—the champions slowly clawed their way back. Darragh Dorian eventually brought the sides level heading into injury time. However, St Fechins held firm in a frantic finale to secure the draw they needed to advance on score difference, bringing a dramatic end to Naomh Mairtin’s title defense.
