Motorists and local residents navigating Ardee will want to take note of a major new planning filing submitted to Louth County Council that promises to transform one of the town’s key commuter gateways.
Petrogas Group Ltd, trading as Applegreen, has officially applied for permission to construct a sprawling service station complex at the busy junction connecting the N33 Ardee Link Road and O’Carroll Street in Cappocksgreen.
What’s Included in the Ambitious Plans?
The proposal outlines a substantial single-storey service station building spanning roughly 708 square metres. Inside, customers would find a convenience retail area of up to 100 square metres—including a dedicated 10.5 square metre off-licence section—alongside three separate food and beverage offerings.
To cater to both families and passing motorists, the plans feature indoor communal seating, an outdoor seating area, a children’s play space, and a rear storage yard. Notably, one of the takeaway food units is designed with a dedicated drive-thru lane and collection hatch.

- Fuel & EV Infrastructure: 3 fuel pump islands under a canopy, underground tanks, and a massive 16-bay EV charging station with its own dedicated canopy.
- Vehicle Care: A fully equipped car wash, brush wash, wash house, and 2 service bays.
- Parking: 63 car parking spaces (including 2 accessible bays near the entrance) and 12 cycle parking spots.
- Site Works: New internal roads, footpaths, lighting, directional signage, boundary landscaping, a height restrictor, and an on-site electrical substation.
The development represents one of the most comprehensive commercial filings in the area in recent times, placing heavy emphasis on modern electric vehicle infrastructure alongside traditional fuel services.
The application is currently undergoing review with Louth County Council, and further public observations and planning decisions are expected in the coming weeks.
