Louth Make History: 14-Man ‘Wee County’ Stun Monaghan to Reach First Semi-Final Since 1957
In a display of sheer determination and tactical brilliance, Louth has overcome the odds at Croke Park to secure a historic All-Ireland semi-final spot.

The odds seemed stacked against Louth from the very beginning of Sunday’s All-Ireland Senior Football Championship quarter-final. Facing off against a seasoned Monaghan side, the Wee County found themselves down to 14 men after only six minutes of play following the dismissal of Seán Callaghan.
Rather than crumbling under the pressure, Louth produced a “gigantic effort” to dismantle Monaghan, eventually running out three-point winners in a Croke Park classic. The resilience shown by the 14 men on the field will undoubtedly go down in the annals of local GAA history.

While the entire squad played their part in this monumental victory, the final stages belonged to substitutes Tadhg McDonnell and Ciaran Byrne. McDonnell, in particular, was instrumental in closing out the game, kicking three vital points after coming off the bench to help secure the result.
